Profiles Volunteer Joyce Peters and her husband, Richard, have been Farm Bureau members for nearly 45 years; however, Joyce’s involvement started after she retired as a middle school English teacher. Her parents were long-time Farm Bureau members, and she and Richard joined an advisory council soon after they were married. The Lamplighters council is still meeting today. She began volunteering as promotion and education chairman and is currently Shelby County president. She also has been a delegate to OFBF’s annual meeting. "You really feel like a part of the policy making process when you’re part of an advisory council," she said. "I feel the legislative process is the biggest value in Farm Bureau." The Peters are parents of four children and have 12 grandchildren. They are active at Green View United Church of Christ, where they are deacons. Joyce also has been involved in the Christian education program and is a past director of Vacation Bible School. She was a 15-year 4-H adviser. The Peters are retired from dairy farming. | |
