River Valley Region - Pike County Farm Bureau![]() Ag Awareness Day draws 500 students More than 500 third-graders got a first-hand look at agriculture during Pike County Farm Bureaus Ag Awareness Day. The event, held at the countys fairgrounds April 14, featured 14 agriculture-related displays covering everything from safety to soil and water to farm animals. The county Farm Bureau gave teachers a packet of information that included a video and lesson plan book on "Ten Things Kids Want to Know about Farming." Bluebird boxes, donated by the Soil and Water Conservation District and the Ohio Bluebird Association, were given to each class. Contests included an essay contest on "Why is Everyday Earth Day to a Farmer?" and a name tag competition with the winning classes receiving Ag Day water bottles. Some of the demonstrations included a camping safety presentation by Dennis Corcoran, Pike Countys safety chair, and a honey bee demonstration.
