River Valley Region - Scioto County Farm Bureau

Ag baby is Farm Bureau member

Each spring, Scioto County Farm Bureau member Sandi Lang solicits local businesses to create a welcoming basket of gifts for the first baby born to a married couple during National Agriculture Week. Little did she know that this year her efforts would be for her first grandchild.

Georgia Brooke Ferguson was born March 16. Her parents are Jason and Elizabeth Ferguson of Portsmouth and grandparents are Tony and Sandi Lang of Wheelersburg.

"I had joked with my daughter when we first found out she was pregnant that we needed to coordinate the child’s birth for Ag Week," Sandi Lang said. "Originally, Elizabeth’s due date was before Ag Week, but as time went on and no baby, I thought, it could happen."

During the presentation of gifts, Scioto County Farm Bureau President Loretta McClure remarked on the appropriateness of the occasion.

"As a Lang, Georgia is born into the rich farming tradition and heritage of Scioto County. She is a sixth generation Farm Bureau member. I’m sure her parents and grandparents will instill in her the importance of agriculture and a commitment to the land."

The Fergusons received donations from Scioto County Farm Bureau, Nationwide Insurance, Wal-Mart, Branding Iron, Koch Hardware, Kay Jewelry, Big Sandy Furniture, Valley Florist, Hickie’s Old Fashioned Hamburgers and Bob Evans.
