OFBF communications efforts received several honors during the American Farm Bureau Public Relations Conference in Austin, Texas. Ohio competed against other states with membership over 70,000 and won five awards:

  • Best Web site. Judges cited the OFBF site, www.ofbf.org, for its organization, navigation, design and current and archival content.

  • Best Photo Essay. Galen Ludwick, OFBF director of art and design, was honored for the pictures associated with the September/October 2004 Our Ohio feature story, "For the love of cheese." Judges were impressed with the essay's use of people and varied perspectives.

  • Best Media Relations Program. The media relations program is OFBF’s efforts with statewide media and County Information Coordinators’ efforts with local media. The program's emphasis on credibility, availability, relationship building and grassroots participation was recognized.

Honorable mention awards were given in the following areas:

  • Best Promotional or Educational Video. The video, which promoted the Our Ohio television series, was recognized for writing, production, style and cross promotion of the entire Our Ohio brand.

  • Best Editorial Series. OFBF Executive Vice President Jack Fisher's Our Ohio and Buckeye Farm News editorials were honored for their approach to tackling big picture issues in a well-written style.

"These awards acknowledge the progressive approach initiated through members, directed through OFBF state board support and carried out via a dedicated and committed staff," said OFBF Vice President for Information, Education and Community Service Kurt Ely.
