Roush assumes national AITC group presidency

In June, Judy Roush, OFBF education specialist, became president of the national Agriculture in the Classroom (AITC) Consortium. The consortium is composed of representatives of each state’s AITC program. Former U.S. Secretary of Agriculture John Block created the Ag in the Classroom program in 1981.

The consortium was formed in 1997 to give a collective voice to state AITC programs, according to Roush. The group maintains an active national role in promoting agricultural literacy programs, provides input into the selection process of the national AITC director at the U. S. Department of Agriculture and provides leadership and a professional network for state AITC programs.

She will serve as president for one year. The volunteer position puts her in charge of the 2006 annual meeting and other consortium board meetings.

Roush has been active in AITC since 1984 and has served as secretary and regional representative for the consortium. Her duties at OFBF include a wide range of programs and projects that promote agricultural literacy among teachers, students, parents and others within the educational system.
