Contests seek innovative ideas

The Farm Bureau County Activities of Excellence (CAE) program is designed to celebrate and recognize successful programs and activities. Originally known as the County Farm Bureau Idea Exchange, the program now focuses on the priority areas of the organization: Education and Ag Promotion, Leadership Promotion, Member Services, Policy Implementation and Public Relations and Information.

Fifteen county Farm Bureaus from across the nation will be selected to present a display of their winning activity during the Farm Bureau Showcase on Jan. 8-9, 2006, at the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) annual meeting in Nashville, Tenn. Those counties selected will receive $2,000 toward expenses incurred to participate in the CAE program.

AFBF also sponsors the Farmer Idea Exchange. The program is geared to surface inventions, equipment modifications, innovative crops, marketing techniques, management systems and farming practices developed by farmers. It is designed to encourage Farm Bureau members to share their innovative ideas and help farmers find ways to cut costs, become more efficient, improve the environment and improve their net income.

The deadline for submitting entry forms to state Farm Bureaus for both contests is Sept. 7. Enter your county's outstanding program online now, at http://www.fb.org/programs/countyx/. Application forms for the 2006 Farmer Idea Exchange are now available online at http://www.fb.org/programs/farmerx/.
