Born and raised in Logan County, Matt Wilson is a fifth generation farmer. He and his wife, Shawndel, farm 900 acres of corn, soybeans and wheat and have 80 head of Holstein dairy beef cattle. He also co-owns Golden Dawn Lawn Care. He currently is president of the county Farm Bureau and has been a member of the county board since 1994. Among his Farm Bureau activities, he has been co-chairman of the young farmer/advisory council committee, has volunteered for Ag in the Classroom and COSI on Wheels activities and served as a member of the county code, scholarship, fair, annual meeting, safety and policy development committees. He also is a member of an advisory council and a past delegate to the OFBF annual meeting. He and Shawndel served on the OFBF Young Farmer Committee. He is a member of the Logan County Land Trust Board, Leadership Logan County board of directors, Logan/Union/Champaign Regional Planning Commission, Logan County Chamber of Commerce, Habitat for Humanity board and is a deacon at Hi-Point Church of Christ where is also audio/visual technician. The Wilsons have two daughters, Ashley and Erica. "Farm Bureau is a respected grassroots organization that speaks for the interests of farmers, ranchers and landowners. In these changing times of economic instability and urban sprawl, we need to foster such an organization that listens to its members at the grassroots level and works for the betterment of its members overall through a unified voice. We are stronger together than any of us could ever be alone," he said. | |
