Students spent the morning visiting stations where they learned economic and social studies concepts using agriculture. Activities included estimating the weight of pumpkins with Lynn Sage of Geauga County and taste testing food products such as ice cream from Jeni's Fresh Ice Creams (pictured here); fruit smoothies from Bubbles Tea & Juice Co.; cheese from Heils Family Deli; breads and spreads from Omega Artisan Bakery; chocolate from Pure Imagination Chocolatier, and apples compliments of the Ohio Apple Marketing Program. Other activities included learning what crops grow in Ohio, using the OFBF What Grows in Ohio map, and following a commoditys journey from farm gate to table plate. County Farm Bureau volunteers, OFBF staff members and FFA high school students from Lancaster City Schools and Zane Trace High School as well as District 6 FFA officers and two state FFA officers helped facilitate the event. "Our hands-on curriculum was created to educate children about food and economics," said Judy Roush, OFBF education specialist. At this event "proficiency test principles related to economics are all incorporated in creative and fun ways," she said. | |
