Speakers highlight first day of OFBF annual meeting

Chairman training also offered Nov. 30

For the second year, county presidents and committee chairmen are invited to Columbus for program training during annual meeting. As part of the day’s activities Nov. 30, chairmen will hear presentations from Julie Anna Potts, AFBF general counsel, and Dr. Bill Jenkins, president of Louisiana State University System. Additional seminars will include planned giving with Dale Arnold, OFB Foundation director and marketing with Alan Brugler, president of Brugler Marketing and Management.

Julie Anna Potts
Potts will be the luncheon speaker Nov. 30. As general counsel for AFBF, she acts as the adviser on both general corporate issues and also public policy issues affecting Farm Bureaus on a national level. Her main areas of practice are environmental and agricultural litigation. She has practiced in matters involving Clean Water Act, National Environmental Protection Act, Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation and Liability and toxic Tort actions. She has written and lectured on legal topics related to agricultural and environmental issues as they affect farmers and ranchers on a national level. She will be sharing information "From Eminent Domain to CAFO Regulation: Farm Bureau Policy Implementation in the Courts."

Dr. Bill Jenkins
The keynote speaker is president of the Louisiana State University System, which includes 10 institutions on 10 campuses in five cities as well as 10 public hospitals in 10 cities. He has taught extensively at both the professional and graduate levels. He also has been active in continuing education and has delivered more than 200 lectures and addresses to diverse groups in both the United States and abroad. He has published more than 60 scientific articles and has contributed 15 chapters to various textbooks. He is co-author of a textbook on veterinary pharmacology. Over the years he has received numerous teaching and service awards and recognitions. He also has served on many boards and commissions at the local, regional, state and national levels. He will be sharing his thoughts on "Leadership Imperatives During Transformational Times," Nov. 30 at 4 p.m.

Alan Brugler
Brugler is president of Brugler Marketing and Management, a Nebraska-based marketing advisory and consulting service. He serves as the principal market adviser and analyst for the firm. He also is a contributor to Buckeye Farm News, writing the Commodity Corner column. From 1992 to 2002, he was the director of analysis and product research for the AgDaily News Division of DTN and also served as a market strategist for DTN Ag1. Prior to joining DTN, Brugler was director of market information services for OFBF. He will present a marketing seminar Nov. 30 at 3 p.m.

Chairman training
This year’s chairman training includes 3 1/4 hours of program specific training in addition to lunch, speakers and an evening reception. Presidents, advisory council/young farmer, agricultural ecology, information, Nationwide sponsorship, promotion and education and safety chairmen and coordinators are invited to attend.
