OFBF to host Trends and Issues Conference Jan. 27

An impressive lineup of speakers will inform, educate and inspire OFBF members at the Trends and Issues Conference, Jan. 27 in Dublin, near Columbus. Among the conference's highlights is a panel of current and past national farm organization leaders from Ohio, according to David White of the OFBF staff.

White calls the event one of the more comprehensive meetings Farm Bureau has hosted. "We have top notch speakers addressing critical issues for Ohio farmers. This will be a day well spent," he said.

General and concurrent breakout sessions will feature speakers/presenters discussing:

  • Current and emerging trends

  • 2007 Farm Bill

  • Ag policy

  • The future of biotechnology

  • Agricultural labor and work force

  • Energy

  • Adding value to agricultural commodities

  • Trade

  • Globalization

  • America’s infrastructure for agriculture

  • Environmental and conservation trends

  • Ohio’s Agricultural Roadmap, a 25-year vision for Ohio’s agbioresource sector

  • Panel discussion, "What’s best for Ohio agriculture?"

Speakers include:

  • Dr. Jay Lehr, economist and futurist

  • Mark Newman, Market Solutions LLC

  • Carl Zulauf, professor, agricultural, environmental & developmental economics, Ohio State University

  • Patrick O’Brien, ag economist, American Farm Bureau Federation

  • John Wargowsky, director, labor services, Ohio Farm Bureau Federation

  • Ron Overmyer, director emeritus, Ag Business Enhancement Center, OSU Extension

  • Barbara P. Glenn, director, Biotechnology Industry Organization

  • Thad Lively, senior vice president for Policy, Planning & Research, US Meat Export Federation

  • Samuel C. Randazzo, general counsel, Industrial Energy Users of Ohio

A highlight will be a panel of immediate past and current national farm and commodity organization leaders from Ohio: Fred Yoder, National Corn Growers Association; Tony Anderson, American Soybean Association; Bryan Black, National Pork Producers Council; Glen Feichtner, National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, and Tom Demaline, American Nursery & Landscape Association.

The meeting is free to OFBF members, but registration is required. You must register with your organization director by Jan. 13. Continental breakfast will be served at 8:45 a.m.; the meeting runs from 9:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
