A Layman’s approach to weight loss

Dr. Don Layman, professor of nutrition in the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition and the College of Medicine at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, will be the featured speaker at the omelet breakfast at the OFBF annual meeting Dec. 1. OFBF state board members and staff will prepare made-to-order omelets as part of the "A Layman’s approach to weight loss" seminar at 7:30 a.m. Tickets are required and may be purchased for $8 at the general registration ticket sales desk at the meeting in Columbus. Ticket quantities are limited. Ohio Poultry Association is the breakfast sponsor.

Layman is recognized for his research on amino acid metabolism, nutritional requirements during exercise and work with high protein, weight loss diets. His research has been recognized by the American Society for Nutritional Sciences with the BioServ Research Award in 1986 and by the National Institutes of Health with the Shannon Award in 1992. Layman earned his bachelor’s and master’ s degrees in chemistry at Illinois State University and completed his doctorate in human nutrition and biochemistry at the University of Minnesota in 1978.
