Upcoming meetings offer a variety of resources for farmers

Risk Management Seminars
The deadlines are approaching to register for OFBF's Risk Management Seminar Series. Presented in partnership with the North Central Risk Management Education Center, five meetings will be held statewide to provide agricultural business owners with the educational information and resources they need to create a personalized business plan.

Five additional meetings will provide farmers with information and strategies for increasing income through sound marketing. Producers will be introduced to grain marketing options including cash, marketing plans, forward contracts, basis contracts, hedge to arrive, delayed pricing and minimum price.

Fruit and Vegetable Congress
The Ohio Fruit and Vegetable Growers Congress will be held Jan. 16 to 18 at the Columbus Convention Center in downtown Columbus. The annual event features numerous workshops, educational sessions and a trade show where industry professionals will be on hand to share new products and innovations.

A highlight at this year's meeting is a presentation by Larry Hollar, a nationally published author and businessman who will share his secrets for solving problems in family businesses. Author of "Keep Your Business Close and Your Family Closer," Hollar's presentation is geared to help farmers avoid the pitfalls and maximize the advantages of family businesses.

MAAHS Human Resource Conference
In conjunction with the Ohio Fruit and Vegetable Growers Congress, Mid American Ag and Hort Services (MAAHS) is offering agricultural and horticultural employers an opportunity to hear from human resource experts during a new conference.

The organization is holding its first ever Mid American Ag and Hort Human Resource Conference along with its 5th annual meeting. The conference will be held Jan. 16 at the Columbus Convention Center and will cover topics such as worker safety, labor compliance and worker productivity.

"Whether you are a top manager, human resource manager, middle manager or working leader/supervisor, this conference will help you more effectively work with the people in your business," said John Wargowsky, MAAHS executive director.

OSU Policy and Outlook Program
Ohio State University's Department of Agricultural, Environmental and Development Economics has announced the dates for its Fall 2005/Winter 2006 Policy and Outlook Program.

The program features a series of information on food, farm and environmental policies and markets, along with statewide conferences that highlight those particular issues.

This year's meetings will focus on green industry, consumer demand, energy, labor, technology, grains, farm inputs, livestock, food demand and community economics.
