Amnesty offered for delinquent taxesPublished on 11/21/2005From Jan. 1 to Feb. 15, the Ohio Department of Taxation will offer a Tax Amnesty period. During this time, taxpayers may submit unreported or underreported tax delinquencies with no penalties and one-half of the interest charges. Taxpayers who choose to use amnesty must make full and prompt payment of any qualifying balance due during the amnesty period. "Ohios tax code is experiencing dramatic change," said William W. Wilkins, Ohio tax commissioner. "We recognize that some taxpayers and businesses may have tax problems about which they are unaware or have not informed their tax professional. Tax amnesty will provide an opportunity for them to catch up on any delinquencies they may have and save significant money in the process." The qualifying taxes that may be considered for the 2006 Tax Amnesty program are:
Taxpayers who have been previously notified of a delinquency, been billed or assessed by the Department of Taxation or are currently under audit by the department are not eligible for amnesty. To obtain tax amnesty, taxpayers must file a completed tax amnesty application form, along with the returns and payment of the taxes and interest.
