Smaller farms get attention from Nationwide’s new policy

In response to the changing landscape of agriculture and farm ownership, Nationwide Agribusiness Insurance has introduced a new policy aimed at insuring smaller farms.

The new policy, called CountryChoice, offers the same broad coverages available in the company’s policy for larger farms, called AgriChoice. But the new policy’s endorsement feature eliminates the need to purchase certain coverages, such as those related to equipment and machinery not needed on many smaller farms.

Jerry Hillard, farm sales officer for Nationwide Agribusiness Insurance, said there is another endorsement available exclusively to OFBF members that provides higher limits of coverage at no additional cost, as well as coverage for identity theft and lock replacements.

"The new CountryChoice policy, which replaces our previous small-farm policy called Country Elite, offers much broader protection, such as automatic construction cost adjustments to ensure adequate insurance amounts, and expanded pollution liability and clean-up coverages," Hillard added.

"CountryChoice also provides favorable Farm Bureau member rates, and a flexible payment plan that allows customers to determine the amount and frequency of their premium payments, within a minimum payment structure," he said.

Nationwide customers who are eligible for CountryChoice, including those currently insured through Country Elite policies, will receive a welcome letter at least 60 days before their renewal date to inform them about the new policy. "As the letter says, we encourage customers to discuss changes within the new policy with their Nationwide agents," Hillard said.

Hillard said CountryChoice policyholders will receive "farm-specific" claims handling from adjusters who focus solely on agriculture-related losses. "Our farm underwriters and farm loss control specialists also benefit CountryChoice customers," he said.

Nationwide Insurance agents can provide further information about CountryChoice or AgriChoice farm policies.
