Our Ohio: Telling Agriculture's Story

Published on 02/13/2006

Ag Day events
If county Farm Bureaus are hosting Ag Day or other spring events open to the public, please send the event information to info@ourohio.org or complete the events online registration form at OurOhio.org. Click on counties, About the map, then submit an event. This is a great opportunity to promote these events on the Our Ohio Web site.

Our Ohio events
Staff members have been participating at various agricultural industry events to promote the Buying Local directory. The directory is a listing of Farm Bureau members who operate farm markets or raise products they sell directly from their operations and can be found on the OurOhio.org Web site’s interactive map. In January, staff hosted displays at the Ohio Fruit and Vegetable Growers Congress and the C.E.N.T.S (Central Environmental Nursery Trade Show). This event included nursery growers, arborists, garden centers/retail greenhouses, turfgrass growers and landscapers.

In February, staff will host Our Ohio events at the Ohio Grape/Wine Short Course in Wilmington, the Ohio Landscape Association WinterGreen Expo in Cleveland and the Ohio River Valley Farm Marketing Conference in Madison, IN.

In the next Our Ohio
The March/April/May issue of Our Ohio will offer stories on mulch varieties and application, 10 ways to be more active, lamb recipes, a travel feature along route 33 from Columbus to the Ohio River, a feature on Honda Manufacturing’s Harmony Agricultural Products in Ohio division and a look at the Menches Brothers of Akron, who claim to have invented the hamburger.
