Agricultural Safety Awareness Week is March 26 to April 1

Ohio Farm Bureau is reminding producers that in the rush of completing their tasks on the farm, they need to take time to act safely and to repair or replace safety devices that protect them, their family members and employees from injuries and fatalities.

The week of March 26 through April 1 is set aside as Agricultural Safety Awareness Week, a time to promote safety on the farm. OFBF Director of Youth and Safety Programs Darrell Rubel said this year’s theme is "Step Up to the Plate for Farm Safety." Nolan Ryan, Hall of Fame pitcher and Farm Bureau member, is lending his support to the program. He asked farmers to make safety part of their spring training. "Starting the season off right begins with careful preparation. Farmers, ranchers and baseball players alike must take the steps necessary to prevent injuries in order to have a truly productive season."

County Farm Bureau safety coordinators have been given news releases to promote the safety week; county Farm Bureau offices will be receiving the news releases on CD as well as prerecorded public service announcements for radio. Rubel said counties should expect the information in early March.
