Free newsletter targets 'agripreneurs'

Published on 02/13/2006

Entrepreneurs that are interested in value-added agriculture can find information on business management, programs and policies in a free online newsletter from Ohio State University's Farm Income Enhancement Program.

"Agripreneur: Creating Wealth through Food and Agricultural Entrepreneurship" is available bi-monthly at http://agripreneur.osu.edu. Interested individuals can subscribe to the newsletter online and will be notified of updates via e-mail. The newsletter's focus is on small to medium sized businesses.

Tom Sporleder, an Ohio State Farm Income Enhancement professor, said each issue will cover a single topic of interest.

"It's really intended to be a continuing source of information on small business development and entrepreneurship and hopefully will have a long shelf life for the various topics," he said

Since its launch, the newsletter has covered topics including small business concerns, strategic steps in starting a new business and accredited investors. Sporleder said the newsletter was developed because "there were certain topics that potential investors needed to know about that they weren't familiar with."

Upcoming topics may include:

  • The commercialization of innovation

  • Conditions necessary to foster entrepreneurship

  • Marketing and finance

  • Business plans

  • Alternative legal structures for a new business

The newsletter also offers links to the latest economic news, data and analysis as well as related Web sites.

Ohio State Extension and Michigan State University's Agricultural Products Center are collaborators in the project.
