OFBF selects children’s literature winner

Published on 03/13/2006

Cris Peterson has received the 2006 OFBF Children’s Literature Award for her book Fantastic Farm Machines. The award is given annually to the author of a book considered to be a distinguished contribution to American literature for children. To earn the award, the publication must have an agricultural theme and have been published for the United States market during the preceding two-year period.

Fantastic Farm Machines introduces readers to 12 pieces of farm machinery and their purpose, and photographer David Lundquist shows each piece of machinery as well as aerial views and close up details. The book describes how farmers accomplish day-to-day work on the farm with the help of machinery. The book is published by Boyds Mills Press.

Peterson is the author of six books for children, including Century Farm, Harvest Year and Extra Cheese, Please, which are previous OFBF award winners. In 2004 she was named National Dairy Woman of the Year at the World Dairy Expo to honor her writing and her leadership in the agricultural business. She and her family run a 500-cow dairy farm on 1,000 acres in Grantsburg, Wis.

The books are in stock and priced at $9. They may be purchased through county Farm Bureau offices.
