Land and Living exhibit wins awards
The "Land and Living… Agriculture: Your Link to Life" exhibit that Ohio Farm Bureau sponsors at the Ohio State Fair won third place in the "special or specific agricultural educational event, exhibit or program for fairgoing public" category from the International Association of Fairs and Expos. The exhibit in the Nationwide Ag & Hort Building competed against other exhibits at fairs with an attendance of 500,000 to 1 million. The exhibit also won a merit award in the Ohio Nursery & Landscape Association’s 2005 Landscape Awards Program for the best educational or informative display of horticultural products or techniques. The award was presented to John O’Neill of Spellacy's Turf Lawn who designed and constructed the display for the building. O’Neill said this is the third year the exhibit has won the award. Come see the exhibit at this year’s Ohio State Fair, Aug. 2 through 13. Buying Local update
The Ourohio.org Buying Local Directory continues to be popular with members and consumers. To be listed on the directory at www.OurOhio.org, Farm Bureau membership is required. There are many directory participants that are not members but are good prospects for new, active memberships. At press time, there were 618 businesses listed in the directory, but only 334 of those participants are documented as members. On May 31, the directory will be purged of nonmembers and become a truly member-only benefit. Now is the time to contact those retail agriculture businesses and invite them to join Farm Bureau. Contact your organization director for a list of these nonmembers in your area. Farm Bureau continues to promote the Buying Local directory opportunity at events. Here is a list of upcoming meetings where information will be available: - June 2 to 4: Landowner’s Conference, Hocking Hills
- June 17: Ohio State Beekeepers Association Meeting, Mansfield
- June 28: Ohio Fruit Growers Society Summer Tour, Canfield
