ProfilesPublished on 04/17/2006![]() Volunteer Bill Tackett has been heavily involved in Farm Bureau during his 20-year membership. He has served three terms on the Washington County Farm Bureau board of trustees, was county president and on the policy development, government affairs and membership committees. He and his wife, Flo, produce hay on their 150-acre farm; the hay is sold to local horse and alpaca owners. They are parents of two daughters and have three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The West Virginia native is a retired Warren Local High School vocational agriculture teacher. He is proud that one of his former students was a national FFA officer, two former students were state FFA presidents and some students have won national awards and state proficiency tests. As teacher he has received the honorary chapter, state and American farmer degrees. In addition to Farm Bureau, he is a Lions Club member and is active in Veto Presbyterian Church, serving as ruling elder, treasurer and on the building committee. He is on the county Extension Advisory committee and has received the Council of Cooperatives Agricultural Award, given by the Council of Cooperatives and the county Chamber of Commerce. "I’m more impressed with the legislative representation that (Farm Bureau) provides for the ag community. I’ve seen the power or influence of people working together," he said. "When I sell people on membership, I tend to stress the political influence in public affairs we have had." | |
