Our Ohio: Telling Agriculture’s Story

Published on 05/15/2006

Growing a masterpiece
This year, county Farm Bureaus will have the chance to showcase the artistic talents of their members at OFBF’s "Land and Living…Agriculture, Your Link to Life!" exhibit at the Ohio State Fair Aug. 2 to 13. Playing off the success of last year’s "Hog Wild" project, this year’s project is called "Growing a Masterpiece". Counties will transform 18-inch by 18-inch blank canvases with the shape of each county into artistic representations of agriculture in their area. Artists may use fabric, paper, paint or any other material to decorate the canvas. The only requirement is that the Our Ohio logo or words Our Ohio should be featured somewhere on the canvas.

In addition to the Ohio State Fair display, Ohio Farm Bureau will use the canvases for other displays. The announcement of the "Best of Show" work of art (as determined by votes) will also be announced at OFBF’s annual meeting Nov. 29 to Dec. 1. The canvases also will appear on the Our Ohio Web site for display and voting.

In the next Our Ohio
The June/July/August issue of Our Ohio magazine tells the story of Velvet Ice Cream and the Hatfield family who provide milk to the company. Another article explores how some communities are participating in Heritage Ohio’s Main Street program, working to revitalize their historic or traditional commercial areas. Other stories take a look at Ohio native plants, the Duct Tape Festival, eggs, rural broadband progress in the state and claims on milk labels. The issue should hit mailboxes the week of June 5.

Our Ohio is brought to you by Ohio Farm Bureau Federation and Nationwide Insurance.
