Volunteer
Lane Osswald
Preble County

Lane Osswald said he joined Farm Bureau nearly 10 years ago simply to obtain member benefits on Nationwide Insurance. But now he’s a member for a different reason. "Since becoming involved I’ve found value in the organization on a local, state and national level. Now I feel a desire and need to be involved to help agriculture." He said he has had the opportunity to visit state and national governments, and he can see how strong Farm Bureau is and "I want to be a part of that."

This year, he was membership co-chairman, and he and his wife, Bambi, are serving a two-year term on the American Farm Bureau Young Farmer and Rancher Committee. They previously were chaircouple of the OFBF Young Farmer Committee. Lane also has served on the county policy development committee and has been a delegate to the OFBF annual meeting. He is a volunteer with the County Farm Bureau’s Buckeye Bridge Ride and a member of the OFBF state swine advisory committee and the vegetable commodity committee.

He and Bambi founded the Preble County Great Group last year; the advisory council has 17 members.

The Osswalds farm with Lane’s parents raising 1,000 acres of corn, soybeans and wheat and have 35 acres of vegetable crops, mainly hand-harvested cabbage. They also have 120 sows farrow to finish. Osswald is responsible for grain crops and manages the labor with the vegetable crops. He also sells seed on the side, is a Certified Crop Adviser and has a consulting business, Growing Acres Farm Consulting.

He is a member of Ware’s Chapel United Methodist Church where he is chairman of the staff/parish relations committee, an usher and on the administrative board. He is a member of National Trail FFA alumni and a volunteer with the Preble County Pork Festival.

The Osswalds have two daughters, Kacy and Natalie.
