Volunteer
Larry Alexander
Holmes County

Larry Alexander began his involvement in Farm Bureau soon after marrying his wife, Carolyn, in 1961. Since that time he has served on the Holmes County Farm Bureau board, volunteered on numerous membership campaigns and served on both the county and state policy development committees. He also has been Holmes County president.

He has a close connection with Nationwide Insurance; his grandfather was an agent as was his father. When his dad took over the insurance agency, Larry took over the family dairy farm. He and Carolyn operate Hyland Acres Jerseys with their daughter and son-in-law and two other partners, milking 400 registered Jerseys and raising nearly 1,000 acres of corn and alfalfa for feed. The Alexanders also have two other grown children and 19 grandchildren.

Alexander is an elder at Nashville Church of Christ and served on the board of Christian Children’s Home of Ohio for more than 25 years. He also has served on numerous boards including county Soil and Water Conservation District, Federal Land Bank, Landmark, Agri-mark and Town and Country. Currently he is on the boards of Dairy Farmers of America Mideast, American Dairy Association & Dairy Council Mid East and Ohio Dairy Producers. He’s also a member of a national task force looking at dairy air quality issues.

"I think Farm Bureau is really very important because of legislative things that go on," he said. "We don’t have time to be in Columbus for everything that comes along, so things they do with government are important."
