They competed with six other young farmers in the semi-final rounds during the OFBF Leadership Conference Aug. 22. The topic was "How do current land prices and profitability affect production agriculture?" The Discussion Meet is a contest to build young farmer communication skills. The competition is not a debate but an exercise in cooperative problem solving. Judges look for contestants who can offer constructive criticism and build cooperation and communication while analyzing agricultural problems and developing solutions. The finalists will meet again during the OFBF annual meeting Nov. 29 to discuss "How can American agriculture increase the opportunities for new uses of traditional agricultural products?" The state winner will represent Ohio at the American Farm Bureau annual meeting in Salt Lake City in January. | |
