Group Rating safety training make-up session

Published on 10/09/2006

Members enrolled in the OFBF Workers' Compensation Group Rating Program should attend one safety training session per year. Previous meetings were offered through county Farm Bureaus, Ohio Fruit & Vegetable Growers Congress, Ohio Safety Congress, and Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation.

Employers who missed the previous training sessions are encouraged to attend Ohio Farm Bureau’s Safety Make-Up Meeting Nov. 17, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Marriott Northwest in Dublin, Ohio.

The meeting, including lunch, is free but to ensure enough food and materials, all attendees must register no later than Nov. 3. Call 614-246-8276 or e-mail drubel@ofbf.org.

To assist our speakers’ planning, you will be asked what type of farm operation or business you have.

Following are some of the speakers and topics that will be presented:

  • Crazy 8s – Nearly every piece of equipment and machinery has eight hazard points, which may cause danger to your health. Dee Jepsen, Program Director for Safety and Health, OSU Extension.
  • Ohio BWC’s Agenda for 2007 – William Mabe, administrator and chief executive officer, Ohio BWC. Mabe was formerly with Nationwide.
  • Making Sense of Workers’ Comp Group Rating Programs – Your group rating status can literally save you thousands of dollars. Join Kathy Redmond, Sandy Rodenkirchen and Laura Elliott from Gates McDonald as they explain the Group Rating program, discount levels and how to make the most of your Workers’ Compensation program. NOTE: This session will also include a Q & A session.
  • Keeping older workers safe on the farm – Mike Ely, certified safety professional, Ohio BWC.
