Readers can look forward to the following stories in the upcoming Our Ohio magazine: See how an Ohio farmer is working to bring back the American chestnut tree; learn how Kenyon College in Knox County is working with area farmers to provide locally grown foods in its cafeterias. Our Ohio started with new shows beginning Oct. 7 on all Ohio public television stations. In addition to the regular features from last year, two new segments are planned for season two. Some of the shows will take a brief look at a rural Ohio town. Martins Ferry, Clyde, Ripley, Bangs, Gallipolis and Wapakoneta are all on the list. Another new segment is called Discover Ohio, which takes a look at a piece of Ohio’s history or shares some Ohio "fun facts" with viewers. Subject matter for this segment includes Peters Cartridge Company, farm folklore and an explanation of silos. Visit OurOhio.org for more information about upcoming shows and air dates and times. Our Ohio had a large, interactive display at the NBC 4 Health & Fitness Expo in Columbus Oct. 14 and 15. Chef Pierre Wolfe conducted cooking demonstrations, the "Growing a Masterpiece" art canvases were on display for voting, a children’s coloring area (using soy crayons) was available, a cider tasting contest and voting were held and new Our Ohio television host Gail Hogan made some appearances with Chef Pierre to discuss the show and opportunities for buying locally grown Ohio products.
