OFBF annual meeting: auction, omelets and more

Published on 11/13/2006

Members will want to take part in three events occurring at the 88th OFBF annual meeting at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Columbus.

The Ohio Farm Bureau Foundation is holding its second annual Rural-Urban Community Auction. Friends and neighbors representing county Farm Bureaus throughout Ohio have created items that represent the best of their communities. Urban businesses, organizations and friends of Farm Bureau who support Foundation programs have donated items for the event, too.

Items are available for preview and bidding online at www.ofbf.cmarket.com; the online portion of the auction closes Nov. 28 and will conclude with a special "live" session in conjunction with the OFBF annual meeting Nov. 29.

Auction participants can use a special proxy feature to stay involved in the final day of live action. Consult the absentee bidding feature highlighted in each item’s listing on the Web site’s auction catalog.

Proceeds from the auction will be used to support Ohio Farm Bureau Foundation’s programs such as Agriculture in the Classroom, consumer outreach, Community Grantsmanship, environmental programs exploring soil and water quality, scholarships and other projects benefiting Ohio families and consumers.

On Nov. 30, Our Ohio television host Gail Hogan and chef Pierre Wolfe will offer a cooking demonstration, "Food for Thought," as part of the annual omelet breakfast. Hogan joined the show as new host for season two. Wolfe is the official chef for Our Ohio, where he said the show allows him to create a connection between his passion for fine food and healthy living.

Breakfast will be served from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Hogan’s and Wolfe’s presentation begins at 8 a.m. Tickets are $8 and can be purchased during annual meeting at the registration desk.

The members of Farm Bureau Youth will have their annual meeting Nov. 1 also at the Hyatt Regency in Columbus. Guest speaker Frank Kitchen will talk to teens about being more courageous, valuable, respectful, thankful, passionate, committed, spiritual, trustworthy and healthy. Other highlights of the day include the Spotlight on Safety finals, the Outstanding Youth Council awards and State Youth Committee elections.
