Officers and trustees elected at annual meeting

Bob Peterson of Sabina was re-elected president of the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation during the annual meeting. He will serve his third full one-year term; he first became president in a special election in March, 2004.

Jeff Zellers of Hartville was re-elected first vice president. He also was re-elected as the state trustee to represent members from Columbiana, Mahoning, Portage and Stark counties.

Brent Porteus of Coshocton was elected to another term as OFBF treasurer. And he was re-elected to serve as trustee where he will represent members from Coshocton, Holmes, Knox and Licking counties.

Other state trustees re-elected to three-year terms were Charles Lausin of Thompson to represent Ashtabula, Geauga, Lake and Trumbull counties; Don Ralph of Morral to represent Crawford, Marion, Morrow and Richland counties; Joe Pittman of New Concord to represent Guernsey, Morgan, Muskingum and Perry counties; Gayle Betterly of Richfield as Northeast Women’s trustee, and Judy Loudenslager of Marion as Northwest Women’s trustee.

Three new farmer-leaders join the state board.

Daryl Knipp of Lindsey fills the seat vacated by the retirement of Ed Lamalie. Knipp’s district includes Lucas, Ottawa, Sandusky and Wood counties. He was Sandusky County Farm Bureau president. He served on the American Farm Bureau Labor Advisory Committee. Knipp operates the family farm with his wife, Cate, producing tomatoes, cucumbers and grain. He is chairman of the board at Luckey Farmers, Inc. and is a member of the Sandusky County FSA board. Knipp is a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He has a bachelor’s degree in agriculture from Ohio State University.

Nathan Ewing of Waverly has been elected to represent Farm Bureau members from Jackson, Pike, Scioto and Vinton counties. Tim Williams retired from this seat. Ewing farms with his parents, raising corn, soybeans and wheat. They also have a cow-calf operation. He is a member of the Pike County Farm Bureau. He also is involved with the county Planning Commission, the Soil and Water Conservation District and the Pike Shrine Club. He is a graduate of the University of Northwestern Ohio where he studied agricultural business management and marketing.

Joyce Payne of Waterloo takes over for the retiring Vickie Powell to represent Athens, Gallia, Lawrence and Meigs counties. She is a 28-year member of the Lawrence County Farm Bureau, and currently serves as secretary of its board of trustees. She has been a 4-H advisor for 10 years and has held several offices in the PTA including president. She and her husband, Gene, produce cattle, goats, hay and corn on their 80-acre farm. They are the parents of two grown children, have seven grandchildren and are members of the Palestine Baptist Church.
