Membership kickoffs moved to February

Published on 12/18/2006

County membership kickoffs are getting a late start this year – on purpose.

This year the membership kickoffs will be held in February; previously they had been in January. Mike Fearon, OFBF’s director of membership, said the kickoffs were moved to February in an attempt to cut down on the amount of time that volunteers work membership. He said that typically volunteers would start work on the campaigns in December or January and work through at least March.

He said that this year volunteers are being asked to work in February and March with most of the volunteer activity taking place in February.

"Time is of essence to our volunteers, and we’re hoping to have strong membership campaigns that don’t take too much time from our busy volunteers," Fearon said.

Moving the kickoffs to February also will give OFBF’s renewal campaigns an extra month to work and possibly lower the number of volunteers needed at kickoff, making it more manageable, Fearon said.

New this year for the membership campaign is that there will be regional prize drawings. Farm Bureau will give away a John Deere Gator, Plasma television and a $500 Grainger gift card in each of the four Farm Bureau regions. To qualify for the drawings, volunteers must sign at least five new members. For every new member they sign, volunteers will receive a ticket for the drawings.

As of press time, not all county kickoff dates had been set. To find out when your county kickoff is or more details about membership, contact your local Farm Bureau office.
