Students stress safety issues through art

Fourth grade students in one southeast Ohio county got creative this fall when they designed farm safety posters for a contest sponsored by the Pickaway County Farm Bureau.

"It was an effort to increase community awareness about the dangers on farms and how children and adults can both be safe," said John Torres, OFBF organization director for Pickaway, Fairfield, Hocking and Ross counties.

Torres described all of the entries as "amazing pieces of art depicting farm safety," but only five winners could be announced. The winners received a rosette and a cash award to share with their classes.

First place winner Rachel Shaw of Westfall Elementary won $50 while second place winner Jennie Brown of Washington Elementary received $40. Third place winner Michael Cline of Washington Elementary, along with fourth place winner Lee Binkley of Pickaway Elementary and 5th place winner McKenna McCallister of New Hope Elementary, won $25 for their classrooms.
