An Ohioan has been awarded the American Sheep Industry Association’s McClure Silver Ram Award.

Guy Flora, a Morrow County Farm Bureau member, was honored Jan. 26 during ASI’s national convention for his "tireless leadership to the Ohio and U.S. sheep industry for many years."

The Ohio Sheep Improvement Association nominated Flora for the award. The association noted that Flora is one of the few national sheep industry leaders from east of the Mississippi River.

"Guy Flora has been a strong sheep industry leader at the local, state and national levels. Guy has brought a tremendous amount of focus on the sheep industry back to the eastern United States. The entire United States sheep industry is grateful for his leadership," said Roger High, executive director of the Ohio Sheep Improvement Association.

Flora has been involved with the Ohio Sheep Improvement Association Board and the Ohio Sheep and Wool Program Board. On the national level, he has served as president, vice president and secretary/treasurer of ASI.

For the last 20 years, Flora has been editor/publisher of The Shepherd Magazine, a publication for the sheep industry. He continues to serve as an educator, mentor and shepherd for the U.S. sheep industry.
