Lunch with lawmakers

Published on 04/19/2007

Farmers from across Ohio had an opportunity to meet with state government leaders during Ohio Farm Bureau's annual Ag Day at the Capital in Columbus. Initially planned as a one-day, statewide event, this year's program brought in farmers from separate state regions over three days after the conference was postponed due to inclement weather. The county Farm Bureau leaders received a legislative update from lawmakers, heard from top government administrators and had lunch alongside their state senator or representative. Gov. Ted Strickland was planning to attend the event before heavy snowstorms forced its rescheduling. Among the issues discussed were eminent domain, estate taxes, the state budget and environmental regulations. Panel discussions focused on large livestock farms as well as renewable energy and bioproducts. OFBF coordinates the meeting each year to allow farmers to share their concerns face to face with state officials. Above, Geauga County Farm Bureau member Gerald Mitchell (l) talks with Republican Rep. Matt Dolan during lunch.
