Time for summer youth conference sign-ups

Published on 04/19/2007

It won’t be long until school is out and the days will be filled with fair projects, vacations and other activities. Farm Bureau is offering four youth leadership conferences and is encouraging registrations now while there is time available in those soon to be filled schedules.

Farm Bureau youth conferences focus on personal and leadership development in a teamwork focused way. Take a look at this year’s conferences:

Higher Ground – June 18 to 22 at Bluffton University, age 14 and up. Teens discover their hidden talents and leadership skills and will stretch their creativity, leadership and teambuilding skills. Past participants said, "I learned that you shouldn’t stand on the sidelines when you want to put in your input, just do so." "I learned to be a leader, not a follower." Reservations are due May 25.

The Edge – July 8 to 13 at Ohio Wesleyan University. Youths age 15 to 18 who previously have attended Higher Ground are eligible to attend this conference. The Edge is Farm Bureau’s capstone leadership experience for teens that will give them the "edge" on teamwork and skills that help them succeed in life after high school. Past participants said, "This camp has changed my life." "I feel so powerful and encouraged to take on this world." Reservations are due June 22.

Quest – July 23 to 25 at Ohio Wesleyan University. Quest offers Junior High students age 11 to 13 workshops to help them deal with the ups and downs of life. Topics include how to make friends, dealing with peer pressure and choosing heroes. Past participants said, "I found myself. The real me, not the girl with the mask." "…I didn’t think I would make this many friends." Reservations are due July 6.

Ignite – July 30 through Aug. 1 at Ohio Wesleyan University, age 12 to 14. This conference offers hands-on workshops to bring out the hidden leader in teens by understanding themselves, family, friends, life and leadership. Past participants said, "I needed to know how to deal with stress; stress is difficult to handle." "I’m better at talking to people." Reservations are due July 13.

Contact county Farm Bureau offices for registration information, including costs. Some scholarships are available.
