2007 Ohio Farm Bureau Teacher Workshop SessionsPublished on 05/17/2007Ohio Farm Bureau is offering three options for teacher and classroom volunteer training in Ag in the Classroom activities. "Misconceptions in Agriculture" will be offered June 21 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Ohio State University. The workshop is geared toward K-8 educators and volunteers who work with them. The goal of the workshop is to share the new resources available for teaching about agriculture. Below are the breakout sessions planned and the presenters:
Betty Wolanyk from AFBF will be the keynote luncheon speaker. Her topic is "Misconceptions About Agriculture". In the afternoon, tours of Ohio State University will include Food Science, the Veterinary Hospital, Dairy Center, and wetlands. Note: The Dairy Center tour is an all-day tour. To register for this one-day seminar, contact Susan Gaughan at OFBF, sgaughan@ofbf.org or call 614-246-8298. The $25 fee includes lunch and breaks and is nonrefundable. In addition, Metro Parks, the central Ohio Parks System, is offering two teacher workshops with agriculture themes: Ohio Farming: The Land, Work and Culture, June 19 and 20, $50, for intermediate and middle school teachers, and Ohio Agriculture: Correcting Misconceptions, June 21 and Aug. 10, $50, for elementary and middle school teachers. OFBF is MetroParks’ partner agency for the June 21 and Aug. 10 workshops. One semester hour of graduate credit will be offered through Ashland University and can be paid for separately at the workshops. One credit hour can be earned for each two-day workshop completed. The cost of one credit hour is $157; however, Franklin County Farm Bureau is offering a $50 credit hour discount, reducing the credit hour cost to $107.
