Here are some of the stories featured in the June/July/August issue of Our Ohio magazine:

Summer is around the corner, and that means Ohio-grown fruits and vegetables will be available. Our Ohio offers tips for selecting the best produce, then enjoy Our Ohio readers’ best tomato recipes. In Travel, see how Woodhaven Farm builds camaraderie through cooking classes. Find out how to build your own rain garden. Take a look inside the governor’s Mansion and Heritage Garden, where the Stricklands are focusing on using green energy. Also, get a taste of Jeni’s Ice Creams, made with some unusual Ohio-grown ingredients. Visit northwest Ohio to learn how carrots make their way into Campbell’s Soup.

Cincinnati Flower Show
Our Ohio provided a display at the Cincinnati Flower Show April 21 to 29. The display was located in the Grand Marquee gardens, with a re-created storefront and farmers’ market and a miniature farm and train display sponsored by Ohio Farm Bureau. Visitors were able to obtain information about Our Ohio and could shop from the "Garden to Go" featuring herbs, vegetables and edible flowers.

More accolades
Ohio Farm Bureau recently entered the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Columbus chapter Bronze Quill awards competition. The OurOhio.org Web site won an award of excellence in the electronic publishing category. Our Ohio magazine won two awards of merit, for the magazine and for its design. Communications professionals from IABC chapters in St. Louis, Tucson, Ariz. and Brazos Valley, Texas judged the entries.

Entries were evaluated on a seven-point scale by two judges each. Entries earning a score of 5.75 or above earned an award of excellence. Those scoring between 5.25 and 5.75 earned an award of merit. OFBF staff members will receive their awards in June.

Bronze Quill awards focus on achievements within these disciplines such as employee communications, public relations, consulting, writing, editing, layout and design, photography, audiovisual and electronic communications, just to name a few.
