Volunteer
Lou Schindler
Hamilton county

Lou Schindler’s passion is consumer education about agriculture, and he has spent his farming and Farm Bureau career pursuing it. He and his wife, Lori, attended an OFBF Young Farmer Conference 15 years ago and became members. Since then, Lou has served on the Hamilton County board as county president, delegate to the OFBF annual meeting and promotion and education chairman. This year, he was membership chairman. He also has served on the OFBF policy development committee and helped with the county Farm Bureau’s presence at the Cincinnati Fall-o-Ween and Farm Festival.

He has emerged as a farmer spokesperson at the county fair. "We do a presentation along with 4-H kids," he said. Several times a week during the fair, a farmer does a sheep shearing demonstration, which Schindler narrates. Afterwards, he interviews kids about their various 4-H livestock projects, and he shares animal facts with consumers.

The Hamilton county native is the second generation on the family’s 40-acre farm where he raises cattle, hogs, poultry and goats. He also operates a service business where he provides repair and maintenance services and construction. He and Lori have four children.

Schindler is a member because he believes in a lot of the things Farm Bureau stands for and because of his passion about agriculture education for consumers. "We need more things like the Our Ohio magazine and TV program," he said, and he encourages more members to be spokespeople for agriculture.
