Ohio Farm Bureau to hold annual meeting

COLUMBUS, Ohio (OFBF) – Gov. Ted Strickland, acting U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Chuck Connor and Ohio Department of Agriculture Director Robert Boggs are the featured speakers at the 2007 annual meeting of the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation (OFBF), Nov. 28 to 30 in Columbus.

Farm Bureau members from across Ohio will meet to establish the official policies for the state’s largest and most influential farm organization. Delegates are expected to take action on the state’s burdensome deer population, electricity re-regulation, livestock farming, taxes, farm policy, food labeling and many other subjects of interest to both farmers and consumers.

Also during the meeting, elections will be held for the organization’s top offices and for district trustees. The winners of OFBF’s Outstanding Young Farmer and Excellence in Agriculture awards will be announced and the finals of the state discussion meet will be held.

Attendees also will hear presentations on new opportunities for Ohio farmers in the bio-based products industry and on developments in the animal rights – animal welfare arena.

OFBF President Bob Peterson and Executive Vice President Jack Fisher will deliver their annual reports to the membership and highlight priority issues for the coming year. Steve Rasmussen, president and chief operating officer for Nationwide property and casualty insurance, also will speak to the attendees.
