The Grow and Know Day at Bob Evans Farms will be held July 18 in Rio Grande from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The program features 12 different programs, and participants can attend two sessions in the morning and two in the afternoon. The cost is $25 for members and $85 for non-members, which includes a Farm Bureau membership. Lunch is included and will be a Bob Evans cookout.

The event is being promoted through 300,000 brochures in Bob Evans restaurants, press releases, radio spots, ads in Our Ohio magazine and Ohio magazine and social media, said Janet Cassidy, Ohio Farm Bureau’s director of membership.

“This is new programming for non-farm folks,” she said. “In this economy, we’ve noticed an increase in people wanting to learn how to grow a garden and what to do to raise chickens and have their own eggs.”

Presenters include OFBF members, Extension agents, business owners and experts from Ohio State University.

The topics are Building the Best Soil, Weed and Pest Control, Garden Primer, Herb your Enthusiasm, Enjoy Fresh Eggs Every Day, A Bit of Horse Sense, You Can, Delish Garden Dishes, Protect What Matters, Fruit and Nut Tree Management, Fence and Barn Maintenance and the Buzz on Bees.

“This an experience for folks who felt they didn’t have involvement in Farm Bureau other than discounts,” Cassidy said. “We’re trying to provide them with a Farm Bureau experience and also access to information that they can’t find anyplace else. This will be a way to include members and recruit new ones.”

The registration deadline is July 6, and details can be found on OFBF’s Web site, www.ofbf.org, or from county Farm Bureau offices.
