Summer Retreat will take place July 11 at the zoo and is for Farm Bureau young agricultural professionals ages 18-35. The event is for singles, couples and families. It is sponsored by Ohio Farm Bureau and the Young Agricultural Professionals Advisory Team.
“This is the first time we’ve done this for young ag professionals at the zoo. It will provide an opportunity for social networking and is a way to bring friends and family together for both social and educational reasons,” said Darrell Rubel, Ohio Farm Bureau’s director of volunteer development.
The cost is $5 per single, $10 per couple and $15 per family, which is parents and their children. Registration includes zoo admission and lunch. The price does not include parking ($5), Jungle Jack’s Landing, Zoombezi Bay and train or boat rides at the zoo. The event will be held rain or shine, and the lunch program will be in the Great Events Pavilion, the zoo’s indoor, air-conditioned facility.
The program includes a discussion about how proposed livestock legislation could affect agriculture in Ohio and how agriculture is an important part of the zoo. During the talks, youths will be entertained by animals brought in by zoo personnel.
The agenda is:
- 9-10 a.m., arrival
- 1 p.m., lunch and program
- 3:30 p.m., adjourn and return to zoo
“If you have never been to any kind of Farm Bureau event, this is a great one to start with,” Rubel said. “You will have the chance to meet people from all over the state and have a great time.”
Preregistration is required and the deadline is June 24. For registration and more information, see www.ofbf.org or contact your county Farm Bureau office.
