COLUMBUS, Ohio (OFBF) – Young agricultural professionals will take a walk on the wild side this summer with an excursion to the Columbus Zoo.
The Summer Retreat will take place July 11 at the zoo from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and is for young agricultural professionals ages 18-35. The event is for singles, couples and families, and is sponsored by Ohio Farm Bureau and its Young Agricultural Professionals Advisory Team.
“This is the first time we’ve had a unique experience like this for young ag professionals. It will provide an opportunity for social networking and is a way to bring friends and family together for both social and educational reasons,” said Darrell Rubel, Ohio Farm Bureau’s director of volunteer development.
The cost is $5 per single, $10 per couple and $15 per family, including parents and their children. Registration includes zoo admission and lunch. The price does not include parking ($5), Jungle Jack’s Landing, Zoombezi Bay and train or boat rides at the zoo. The event will be held rain or shine, and the lunch program will be in the Great Events Pavilion, the zoo’s indoor, air-conditioned facility.
The program includes a discussion about how proposed livestock legislation could affect agriculture in Ohio and how agriculture is an important part of the zoo. During the talks, children will be entertained by animals brought in by zoo personnel. Children age 12 and under must be accompanied by a parent or sibling over the age of 12.
“If you have never attended a Farm Bureau event, this is a great one to start with,” Rubel said. “You’ll build new relationships, strengthen the ones you already have, and enjoy a great learning experience as well.”
Preregistration and a Farm Bureau membership is required. The deadline is June 24. For registration and more information including membership, see www.ofbf.org or contact your county Farm Bureau office.
