Gear up for Issue 2 at Farm Science Review

Buckeye Farm News

Farm Science Review will be held Sept. 22-24 at the Molly Caren Agricultural Center in London. Those who join Farm Bureau during Farm Science Review will receive a free pair of work gloves, which was also offered as a promotion last year. OFBF’s involvement with helping create and gain support for state Issue 2 will be used as a tool to help recruit new members, said Janet Cassidy, Farm Bureau’s senior director of  marketing communications.

A large portion of Farm Bureau’s area will feature a display promoting Issue 2, which will go to voters Nov. 3. Banners and screens with the campaign Web site,, will be featured in OFBF’s building, said Doug Foxx, OFBF’s director of political and legislative education.

“A large number of staff will be on hand to answer questions about Issue 2 and provide people with material and campaign information that they can share with family and friends,” he said.

Farm Bureau staff members will be encouraging Issue 2 supporters to sign up for e-mail alerts that give them updates about developments and upcoming events. Staff members also will be on hand to describe ways farmers and others can get involved in the campaign, Foxx said.

“We’ll be trying to encourage people to join the campaign and talk with friends and neighbors,” he said. “With this year being an off-year election, 30 percent usually turn out for this type of election. Every farmer and member of the ag community needs to be fully aware of this issue.”

Donation envelopes also will be offered so Issue 2 supporters can contribute financially to the campaign.

“Farm Science Review is an important piece of our strategy because there’s such a large number of farmers who participate,” Foxx said. “State Issue 2 is by far one of the largest grassroots campaigns Farm Bureau has ever been involved with. It’s critically important for all farmers to be fully aware of the issue and promote a yes vote on Issue 2.”
