CINCINNATI, Ohio (OFBF) – Cassandra Palsgrove of Pickerington is the winner of the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation’s (OFBF) 2009 Discussion Meet.  She competed with three other finalists during the OFBF annual meeting held Dec. 2–4 in Cincinnati.

Palsgrove won an expense-paid trip to the American Farm Bureau Federation annual meeting in Seattle in January to represent Ohio in the national contest.  She also received $1,000 courtesy of Nationwide Insurance, $500 courtesy of Dodge Trucks and a chime clock from Ohio Farm Bureau.

The annual contest tests participants’ subject knowledge, problem solving abilities and personal and small group communications skills.  Palsgrove and the other finalists discussed what can be done to encourage young people to get involved in the agricultural industry and how to bridge the gap between farmers and lawmakers in order to have an influence in the changing political environment.

Palsgrove and her husband Brent are members of the Fairfield County Farm Bureau and participate in a Farm Bureau advisory council.  She teaches agricultural education at Bloom Carroll High School and earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from The Ohio State University.

Other finalists participating in the Discussion Meet were Pam Haley of West Salem, Andrew Spiker of Adamsville and Kelly Staley of Fredricktown.
