Ohio Farm Bureau Supports “End Ohio’s Estate Tax Now” Campaign

In recognition that eliminating the estate tax is consistent with the policy positions developed and approved by delegates at the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation (OFBF) Annual Meeting, the OFBF Board of Trustees has voted to support an initiative petition campaign underway to end Ohio’s estate tax on December 31, 2012.

The campaign is in the process of gathering the 120,683 required signatures from registered Ohio voters to place a bill before the General Assembly that, if approved, would effectively end the state tax on the estates of person’s dying after December 31, 2012.  Once the campaign submits the required signatures and they are certified, the Ohio General Assembly will have four months to consider the bill.  If the General Assembly does not pass the bill within four months, the campaign that is proposing the issue would be required to obtain an additional 120,683 signatures from registered Ohio voters to place the issue on the November 2011 ballot.

Ohio Farm Bureau encourages all members to learn more about the End Ohio’s Estate Tax Now campaign by visiting the campaign’s website and to consider volunteering for the campaign by requesting a signature collection packet and circulating the campaign’s petition among friends, family, neighbors and others interested in eliminating the estate tax.
