Even if your garden has been put to bed for the year, there’s still much you can do with local foods. Learn how to make your own cheese, yogurt and other dairy products from scratch, and how to identify and obtain different meat cuts, at Ohio Farm Bureau’s Grow and Know day at Lake Metroparks Farmpark.
“What to do in Winter” will be held Oct. 23, 2010 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Lake Metroparks Farmpark in Kirtland.
Attendees can expect to gain valuable information and practical skills in dairy foods and meat. Speakers for the day will be food author and Our Ohio contributor Marilou Suszko and Tom Nagel, an experienced butcher from Cleveland’s West Side Market.
“Marilou and Tom are great resources when it comes to Ohio foods,” said Cara Lawson, promotion specialist for Ohio Farm Bureau and one of the coordinators for the event. “We selected the sessions to remind everyone that local foods can be enjoyed and prepared year-round.”
