Dave and Gail (Herrmann) are lifelong farmers in Morgan Township. They have three children; David and wife Heather and their sons Tyler and Aaron, Michael and his wife Jennifer, and daughter Christa and her fiance’ Bryan. Christa and Bryan will be married on our farm next summer.
We have a 650 acre grain farm; we raise corn, soybeans and hay. We raise a few beef cattle for our personal freezer beef and a few to sell. I am very involved in the farm operation. I keep all the farm records as well as market our grain. I watch the computer with the markets and make the phone calls to sell grain. I can operate most of the equipment I choose to operate; there are a few things I choose not to run like the grain cart. I can operate all the tractors and have planted corns and soybeans in the spring. I can operate the combine in the fall and enjoy helping when needed.
In 2004, I started my own business with Crop Insurance. I currently write policies with ADM Crop Risk Services out of Decatur, Ill. I am licensed to sell crop insurance in three states and currently help many area farmers with their crop insurance needs. This business works around the schedule on the farm.
I like to be involved with a multitude of committees and organizations. I currently serve on the board of the Farm Service Agency, 4-H Committee, 4-H Executive Advisory Committee, as well as our 4-H clubs as an adviser for the past 34 years. I am also a member of the FFA alumni assisting with many fund raising events. Through these various organizations, I have won numerous awards; including Leadership Award, Innovator Award and Meritorious Service Award. I am currently serving as your President of the Butler County Farm Bureau and also Membership Chairman for the year. As you can see, I like to be involved and look forward to meeting you as we start our membership campaign for 2011.
