Well, I’d better formally introduce myself first hadn’t I. Hello, my name is Karen Hiltbrand and I’m 15 years old. I live on my parents family-owned farm in the small town of Seven Mile, Ohio and I absolutely wouldn’t trade the way I live in for anything.
My life revolves around all aspects of our farm. Since this is just my first entry I’ll just start and tell you a few things about myself. I am a whole hearted animal lover; its what I do and live for. I’ve been raised up around our cows, my blue eyed horse, Stitch, and riding with my dad in the combine. I’ve been taught that hard work, perserverence, and responsibility will earn you respect and to always respect my elders.
My mom keeps around 50 crossbred cows that we breed for commercial calves with the exception of a show calf here and there. My dad raises soybeans, corn, wheat, and hay as well as running his trucking business.
I attend Edgewood High School and am a freshman. I am a member of my school’s FFA chapter and so far I love it. My passion for animals shows through when I say that I love to show my cattle and horses. I spend countless hours all year long in the barn, working with my calves until they are my puppy dogs. I show all winter long through the Ohio Cattlemens as well as showing every once in a while at state level and at national shows. I’m very very active in 4-H where I show horses, cattle, and pigs.
I’m a strong believer that I was put on this earth to help others and make a difference, so that’s exactly what I plan to do. I believe in the way all of my family lives and operates their farms and would stand by any of them.
This is just a few things about me but it’s a start. Behind God and my family, my livestock comes next, so here’s the beginning of basically the days of my life.
– Love Always, Karen Anne
