We are fourth generation dairy farmers. Our farm has been in our family for over 100 years. We are located in Butler County, Ohio. I am Rosemary and my husband Edward and I operate this dairy farm. We have been married 33 years. Our son, Keith, 31 is in the United States Army. He is stationed at Fort Wainwright, Alaska which is near Fairbanks. Keith is being deployed to Iraq in January for the third time. Our daughter Amy, 26, married Kelly this past summer. She lives in Fredericktown, Ohio, 3 hours north of us. Amy works in Columbus at a credit union. Kelly works as a landscaper.
We are very proud of our family. We currently milk 90 cows. We own Holsteins, Registered Brown Swiss and Ayrshire , Holstein/Brown Swiss cross bred cattle. Our life is very active. We have one employee, Bill, who does the evening milkings five days a week. Bill has been working for us for 10 years. We have a few part-time employees. The bulk of the farm work falls on Edward and Rosemary. Edward does all the feeding and other work involved. Rosemary does all the morning milkings and evenings when Bill is off work, also feeds all the young calves and does the accounting for the farm. Edward’s parents, Earl and Lillian also help. We farm around 900 acres of corn soybeans and wheat and hay. We feed out all our dairy steers.
In addition to the farm and dairy we are active with the FFA and FFA Alumni. Our activities with FFA include state proficiency judging, sponsoring Dairy Holders CDE, helping with the Talawanda FFA. Also for the past several years, we have helped 4-H youth obtain feeder calves and leasing of dairy heifers to show at the Butler County Fair. Rosemary is active in quilting and sewing. She is a member of the Oxford Piecemakers Quilt Guild and American Sewing Guild. Edward is active in bowling.
