Nationwide Insurance was started to help farmers and it wants to continue to be in the marketplace to do just that, according to CEO Steve Rasmussen.
During his address to farmers at the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation annual meeting, Rasmussen said he appreciated the relationship with Farm Bureau and highlighted the On Your Farm Agency Certified Program. The program helps assure that agents representing Nationwide Insurance have an in-depth understanding of the risks and challenges of farming.
“Farming isn’t the same business it was 20 years ago,” Rasmussen said, noting that almost 1,000 agencies have received the certification to sell farm insurance.
Rasmussen also acknowledged that the weak housing and auto markets have slowed growth in insurance policies, but “the bottom line is we’re growing again.”
He said Nationwide plans to position itself as the “new mutual” insurance company, highlighting the fact that it is responsive to its customers, because “they are our owners.”
