Beeler Family Farm

Diary of Rosemary Beeler – Week 3- December 13-19

December 13, 2010

Monday: We started out the day as usual, milking and doing chores. It seems to take longer to do the chores in the cold weather. We are leaving on a bus tour tomorrow to Nashville Tenn. to Gaylord Opryland Hotel. We only get a few days off a year. We asked friends to help with the work while we are gone. I took my dog to a friend to watch while we are gone. I was home in time to start the evening milking and feeding calves. Edward went bowling tonight. We are still struggling with the water heater but it is working but not as good as expected. I hope it doesn’t break while we are gone.

Tuesday: I was up at 4:15 to feed my calves before milking. It is nice and quiet but very cold out there. I like being up early and outside. Edward was up also trying to get his calves fed. I did the morning milking, then hurried in to eat breakfast and leave for our bus tour. Tonight we will see the Rockettes at Opryland.

We went to see the ice sculptures and walked around the beautiful Opryland Hotel. Then we went to see Louise Mandrell. She sang a song about the military and that brought memories of my son.

We are on our way home. The bus isn’t working properly so it takes us forever to get home. My brother is picking up my son Keith at CVG tonight and meeting us in Harrison. Keith will be home from Alaska for 5 days. My daughter and her husband are coming from Fredericktown this weekend. We are planning Christmas parties.

We are back at the farm and starting the day as usual. I am doing the milking; it seems the cows are happy I am back. It is very cold day. I fed my calves. Our friends did a very good job of running the farm while we were gone. They didn’t have time to write this blog so I am trying to catch up. Our water heater is still working but not properly. We talked to the plumber and he is trying to figure it out.

Keith is here and happy to be back at the farm. Edward is working outside, feeding hay, grinding feed, putting straw down. We have a Christmas party tonight with his family so we are trying to get our work done early. Amy and Kelly came about 6 tonight. I have a full house again.

Sunday: We went out to do the work. We are waiting for a cow to have a calf. We brought her up to the barn last Sunday, thinking she would have the calf while we were gone. Well, we are still waiting on the calf. I guess it will come when it decides on its own.  Amy and Kelly fixed breakfast for us and we opened presents. We wanted the whole family home so we are celebrating early. We went to Bier Haus restaurant to meet with my family for Christmas and visit with Keith. We came home to do the evening chores. It is always hard to leave a party to come home to do the chores.
