John and Joyce Brown have lived and farmed in the Ross, Ohio area all their lives. They have three daughters. Jody is married to Steve Boyd and has Jenna age 6, Jonathan age 3, and is expecting their third child at the end of March. Steve works at Scherzinger Drilling. Jessica works in the legal division for Proctor and Gamble and travels the world for them. Jamie is a registered nurse and works in the E.R. at the West Chester Medical Center. The girls were an integral part of the farming operation for years and still return to the farm for special events. I am certain that they got their good work ethics from working with us on the farm.
The past 40 years have been full of adventure and variety. John and Joyce raised hogs farrow to finish, had a cow/calf operation, grain crops, and hay, but are probably best known for the produce that they grow. They operate Brown’s Family Farm Market located alongside Stricker’s Grove Amusement Park on Rt 128 west of Ross, Ohio. Perhaps you have seen the rows of sweet corn, cabbage, tomatoes, watermelon and cantaloupe along the road and watched with interest as the crops grew and the season progressed to where the produce was harvested and sold at the farm market. Locals tell us that they love watching the changing of the seasons according to the displays we put out. More recently we opened Brown’s Marketplace in Hamilton, Ohio with Antiques, Amish furniture, a deli department and bulk foods.
There is never a dull moment with our family. Our season starts in the greenhouse with seeding and planting of our vegetables and flowers. That is what we are focusing on for the month of March. Come along with us and see how it works!
